Boots on the Ground: Growing More Than Food at Bunny’s Love Farm 🥾🌱🚜
When people think about farming, they often picture the finished product—the tomatoes on the table, fresh greens ready for dinner, or baskets filled with vegetables at the market.
But long before the harvest, there are boots on the ground.
There are beds to prepare, grass to cut, seeds to plant, soil to care for, water to manage, structures to build, and plenty of problems to solve along the way. At Bunny’s Love Farm, those everyday moments are part of something much bigger than simply growing vegetables.
We are growing knowledge, opportunity, community, and a healthier relationship with the land.
What Does “Boots on the Ground” Mean?
To us, boots on the ground means being present.
It means getting outside and doing the work instead of only talking about what needs to change. It means learning better farming and conservation practices and then finding ways to put that knowledge into action.
Sometimes that looks like preparing an area for fall planting. Sometimes it means working on farm infrastructure, planning for the high tunnel, improving the soil, or figuring out how to use water more efficiently.
And sometimes it means stepping away from our own field to talk with another farmer, participate in agricultural education, connect people with resources, or share something we’ve learned.
Every one of those activities strengthens agriculture in our community.
A Small Farm Can Have a Big Purpose
Bunny’s Love Farm isn’t a huge operation—and we don’t have to be.
Small farms can demonstrate conservation practices. We can introduce families to locally grown food. We can create spaces where people learn how food is produced. We can support other farmers by sharing information and resources.
Most importantly, we can be accessible to the communities around us.
Agriculture becomes more powerful when knowledge doesn’t stop at the farm gate.
That’s why education and community outreach are becoming such important parts of the work we do at Bunny’s Love Farm.
Growing More Than a Harvest
Of course, we still want a beautiful harvest.
We want rows of collards, kale and other vegetables. We want productive growing spaces and a high tunnel full of possibilities. We want fresh food leaving this farm and making its way onto tables in our community.
But we’re also thinking beyond the next harvest.
How can we take better care of our soil?
How can farmers learn about conservation resources available to them?
How can we help people understand where their food comes from?
How can a small community farm help strengthen the local food system?
Those questions are becoming just as important as “What are we planting next?”
The Work Continues
As we prepare Bunny’s Love Farm for another growing season, there will be plenty of work ahead.
There will probably be some muddy boots, sore muscles, unexpected problems, changed plans—and hopefully a whole lot of vegetables.
But that’s farming.
You learn. You adjust. You plant again. And you keep showing up.
That’s what boots on the ground means to us.
We’re not just talking about healthier land, stronger farms, fresh food, and stronger communities.
We’re putting our boots on and working toward it—one seed, one farmer, one family, and one community at a time.
Stay connected with Bunny’s Love Farm as we prepare for fall, continue building the farm, and share more of what we’re learning along the way.
Growing food. Growing knowledge. Growing community.

Saving our planet for the next generation!”
