🌱 Quality Over Quantity: Growing With Purpose

Sometimes we get so focused on more that we forget to ask whether more is actually better.

More land.

More crops.

More customers.

More programs.

More events.

More money.

More, more, more.

But one of the things I am learning through Bunny’s Love Farm is that growth isn’t always about doing more.

Sometimes growth means doing what you already do—better.

🌱 A Bigger Garden Doesn’t Always Mean a Better Harvest

Farming will teach you this lesson quickly.

You can plant 500 plants, but if you only have the time, water, labor, and resources to properly care for 200 of them, did planting more really make you more successful?

Probably not.

I’d rather properly prepare the soil, plant what we can manage, care for those plants, and produce a quality harvest than plant every available space just so we can say we grew more.

That’s quality over quantity.

And I’m realizing that same lesson applies to almost everything we’re building.

🥾 Quality Matters in Community Work Too

We’ve been talking a lot at Bunny’s Love Farm about putting our boots on the ground.

To us, that means actually being present in the community—not simply saying we’re serving people.

And here’s something else I’ve been thinking about:

Impact isn’t always measured by the largest number.

If 100 people attend an event but leave without learning anything they can use, that’s a number.

But if 10 people attend and one learns how to start a garden, another gets connected with agricultural resources, another learns about conservation, and another takes what they learned home and teaches their children—that’s impact.

Those 10 people matter.

Quality over quantity.

🌾 We Don’t Have to Be the Biggest Farm

Bunny’s Love Farm is a small farm.

And I’m becoming more comfortable saying that without feeling like the next sentence needs to be, “but we’re trying to get bigger.”

Of course we want to grow.

We want to improve our growing spaces, get our high tunnel operating, increase production, grow more fresh food, provide educational opportunities, and reach more people.

But I don’t want growth just for the sake of being able to say we’re bigger.

I want purposeful growth.

If we expand, I want us to be able to maintain what we build.

If we grow more food, I want it to be quality food.

If we hold a class, I want people to leave knowing something they didn’t know when they arrived.

If we work with a farmer, I want that farmer to walk away with something useful.

If we invite the community onto the farm, I want them to understand why this little piece of land matters.

That’s the kind of growth I’m interested in.

🌱 Sometimes Less Gives You Room to Do More

There is something powerful about knowing your capacity.

It doesn’t mean you don’t have ambition.

It means you understand that everything you say yes to requires something from you.

Time.

Money.

Energy.

Land.

Water.

Labor.

Attention.

Sometimes saying, “We’re going to do these few things really well,” creates more impact than trying to do everything at once.

That’s something we’re still learning.

And I think it’s a lesson worth sharing.

🥬 What Does Success Look Like?

Maybe success isn’t having the largest harvest at the farmers market.

Maybe it’s having customers come back because they trust what you grow.

Maybe it isn’t having hundreds of people at a community event.

Maybe it’s watching a child plant a seed for the first time.

Maybe it isn’t owning hundreds of acres.

Maybe it’s taking care of the land you have and making every square foot count.

Maybe success isn’t being everywhere.

Maybe it’s being present where you are.

We’re still growing at Bunny’s Love Farm.

We’re still learning.

We’re still making mistakes, changing plans, trying new things, and figuring out what works.

But one thing is becoming clearer:

We don’t have to be the biggest farm to make a big difference.

Our goal isn’t simply to do more.

Our goal is to do meaningful work and do it well.

One seed.

One family.

One farmer.

One community at a time.

That’s what quality over quantity means to us.
