Fresh kale is in season, and it’s a great time to add this nutritious leafy green to your meals!
At Bunny’s Love Farm, we enjoy growing fresh produce that can go from our garden to your family’s table. Kale is one of our favorite cool-season vegetables because it is nutritious, versatile, and can be prepared in many different ways.
Why Add Kale to Your Plate?
Kale is a nutrient-dense leafy green that provides several important vitamins and minerals.
It is especially rich in vitamins A, C, and K and also provides nutrients such as calcium, potassium, and folate. Kale also contains fiber and antioxidants, making it a great vegetable to include as part of a balanced diet.
And you don’t need a complicated recipe to enjoy it!
Fresh Ways to Enjoy Kale
If you’ve never cooked with fresh kale—or you’re looking for something different—there are plenty of ways to use it.
Try kale:
Chopped into fresh salads
Sautéed with garlic and onions
Added to soups and stews
Mixed into pasta dishes
Added to smoothies
Cooked with other leafy greens
Baked into crispy kale chips
Added to eggs or omelets
You can also substitute kale in many recipes that call for other leafy greens.
How to Store Fresh Kale
Proper storage can help your kale stay fresh longer.
Keep fresh, unwashed kale in the refrigerator, preferably in a produce bag or container. Wash it thoroughly under clean running water before preparing it.
When you’re ready to cook, remove any tough or thick stems if desired and chop or tear the leaves into the size you need.
For the best quality, use your fresh kale while the leaves are still crisp and brightly colored.
